SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2024
10:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.

The Southeast District Bar Association is excited to partner with the City of Downey for its annual legal fair, a unique opportunity for personal growth, problem solving, and learning.  The event, which will be held in person for the first time since 2019, is a significant milestone and we are thrilled for its return!  We will be hosting the event on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center. It is open to all residents of Southeast Los Angeles County.

The Southeast Los Angeles County area includes the Cities of Norwalk, Downey, Whittier, Pico Rivera, La Mirada, Bellflower, South Gate, Huntington Park, Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Commerce, Vernon, La Habra, Lakewood, Hacienda Heights, Industry, and La Puente.  Members of these communities are encouraged to attend the event to receive a free consultation on issues they face.

Volunteer attorneys will provide information and free, 30-minute consultations in different areas of law, including: labor/employment law, criminal, juvenile, and traffic defense, family law, personal injury, workers’ compensation, estate planning, trust and probate administration, contract law, civil litigation, immigration law, landlord/tenant law, and others.  This limited-scope representation shall consist only of a thirty-minute consultation that shall terminate at the end of the consultation.  The representation is limited to legal advice regarding the issue(s) you discuss during your appointment, and the attorneys will not represent you in court; will not draft, prepare, or file any papers for you; and will not do any other work for the you either before or after the scheduled consultation, unless you and the attorney enter into a separate, written representation agreement.

See California Rules of Professional Conduct 1.2(b), 6.5.

The mission of the Southeast District Bar Association is to enhance and serve the educational and professional needs of its membership, promote the integrity of the profession, encourage collegiality and interaction with the judiciary, and provide access to legal services and the judicial system. Our organization is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice, and any advice you receive is the advice of that attorney and that attorney alone and not the advice of SEDBA.

If you are an attorney, we are looking for more volunteers from all areas of the law to contribute to this inspiring event. Please join us in our commitment to give back to the community and ensure access to justice!
